Sweet Chariot

It was a secret singer
and had a soulful song.
It wrapped like wind
around the trees -
in darkness sped along.
Its path was wild and twisted
and lonely as a tomb.
Its mournful voice
a weary wind
that sang down depths of gloom.
At last it found me waiting -
I've always known its song.
I knew its name
and it called mine -
its coming had been long.
Released from rigid silence,
and duty daily borne,
it swept me up,
we danced a gale,
engulfed in arms of storm.
