The Red Ridges LXVI
Hello Somadina, are you there? Are you okay?
Have you made the 'akara' balls for the rush hour?
Have you mixed the ice cream for the hot hours?
Have you made the tea for the peak times at work?
We saw you put your hands together in prayer
We saw you kneel and get the fireworks going
We saw you smile and say, how are you this morning?
So we shall reply you with plenty of coins
You have carved a niche for yourself in our lives
You have found love in the hearts of men and women
Who have mouths to feed and burdens to carry
Who have long miles to travel and borders to cross
You are brave to have gone to the railway station
Where pilots and engineers are settling old scores
Where truckers and merchants are building new frontiers
Where tourists and visitors are checking executive trends
Hello Somadina, did you hear the voice of Okonkwo?
On the telly, over the radio and on the streets
Around the corners of the railway station and tracks
Preaching the good news to all ends of the earth
