July Raining
Miriam Rigg 2005 (PA)
sweet words, that bliss, on a hot July day
the truth of the tale of your life’s ways
pretty picture, it now fades
and I’m confused ‘til I’m amused
I lie with you until the weather brings something new
and if you’d have me I might stay ‘til it rains
now dewy weather only brings me pain
our traces on the pool recliners
your sweet kiss and the smell of the rain
your way with words, the Shakespeare of plays
you said goodnight put the letter in my hand
never underestimated my plans
as the rain poured down on an old September night
how the lane twists and turns with all its might
how you ruined the nighttime with all your ways
how I cried in the corner just trying to fight the pain
how I loved you and all your breaks
how I’d swim in the tears just for your “maybe”
returning issues it’s much too strong
how I prayed for you to just come back home
I guess I lost my thoughts that way
how you overtook my mind and then just twisted the pain
how I’d forgive for writing alone
the letter you wrote inscribed in my bones
you left a mark and just forgot the spark
you took up pages in my diary until it broke my heart
and then I fight for you to stay
until I was down on my knees just praying all-day
I can’t wait for you to come back into my sweet grace
