Shattered
Jaqueline Douglas-Jones 1976 (Uitenhage)
Strips of flesh torn away,
One moment at a time
A Cadence of disaster
Wafts through the air,
I hold onto what's mine.
Shards of shattered glass
My emotions lay wasted
Reaching for something
Looking for nothing,
All the while lambasted.
But still I rise, still I walk
For an end I cannot see
Still I try, still I work
Persevering, striving, fighting
Whilst still on bended knee.
