Analysis of Fair Weathered Friends

Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)

Fair Weathered Friends

I have no time for fair weathered people
When the storm demands shelter
Who throw breadcrumbs to me
When I’m in need of a meal
Who say I’m too busy
When time is needed now.

Sunshine souls crave sanguine illusions
Serenity moments so fleeting
Suffering makes them pale white
Reality requires a brave heart
Who faces down the coward
Unwilling to open their hand.

Your greatest friend beyond yourself
Exists as benignity incarnate
The selfless one whose time is infinite
Willing to answer your call
The breeze you feel but don’t see
Who comes when no one else does.
