Analysis of The Haunting

Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)

When evening falls the sensation returns
The I love you spoken as a lie
You wore it out so badly
A mask for your grotesque face
Cold kisses given
And forced embraces
With no assurance
Makes for chilly memories.

How could you fake being in love so long?
Your acting is award worthy
For ten long years
Your affection felt empty as
A barren kitchen
Neglecting me with breadcrumbs
So I went begging for food
And morsels elsewhere.

You ask for a divorce you refuse to pay
Hard to believe I must finish
What pathetic quitting you started
It’s a iron skillet to my face
I am unable to speak to
Trust or look at anyone
You succeeded in haunting
Any chance I’ll ever love again.
