Down By The River

Down by the river
Next to the willow tree
I washed away all the pain
And all the memories

Down by the river
It’s time my soul was clean
I might forgive and might forget
But some things can’t be unseen
.
Down by the river
There’s no tears in my eyes
I used to think, that we were in sync
But there was no compromise

Down by the river
Where glass shards turn to sand
I find myself with nothing left
But my will to understand

Down by the river
I lay down by the edge
I say goodbye One last time
My peace is my revenge

Down by the river
I start to walk away
The sun has set, to a silhouette
Of a new and better day

About this poem

I wrote this poem after losing a friendship with someone of 15 years. After the friendship ended, I threw everything I had that reminded me of her into the river by my house.
